सन्त्येव सज्जानाः सन्त्येव पण्डिताः सन्त्येव देवालया योगिनश्च ।
दौर्जन्यमज्ञानमपि नास्तिक त्वं च कस्मान्नु वर्धते नागराज ।।

There are good people and scholars, there
are many temples and Yogis. Even so, why are
hooliganism, ignorance, and atheism thriving

उपार्जितानां वित्तानां त्याग एव हि रक्षणम्‌ ।
तडागोदरसंस्थानां परीवाह इवाऽम्भसाम्‌ ।।

Money earned must be spent to keep it in circulation.
Put it to good use which is the best protective
investment. The water of pond has inflow and outflow
systems. That keeps its water clean. (14)

यत्रोदकं तत्र वसन्ति हंसाः तथैव शुष्कं परिवर्जयन्ति ।
न हंसतुल्येन नरेण भाव्यं पुनस्त्यजन्ते पुनराश्रयन्ते ।।

The swans live in lakes filled with blue waters. When
any lake dries up, the swans of that lake desert it. Men
should not change their base too often like swans. (13)

वरं न राज्यं न कुराजराज्यं वरं मित्रं न कुमित्रमित्रम्‌ ।
वरं न शिष्यो न कुशिष्यशिष्यो वरं न दारा न कुदारदाराः ।।

It is better to have no state instead of having a bad state.
Better to have no friends instead of having evil friends. Better
to have no pupil instead of having bad pupil. Better to have no
wife instead of being the husband of a bad wife. (12)

लुब्धमर्थेन ग्रहणीयात्‌ स्तब्धमञ्जलिकर्मणा ।
मूर्ख छन्दोऽनुवृत्तेन यथार्थत्वेन पण्डितम्‌ ।।

The following can be won over; a greedy by offer of
money, a proud person by cowering before him, a
fool by agreeing with him and a scholar by speaking
the truth.

ऋणकतां पिता शत्रुः माता च व्यभिचारिणी ।
भार्या रूपवती शत्रुः पुत्रः शत्रुरपण्डितः ।।

A father who leaves behind unpaid debts is the
enemy of his children. A mother with loose character
is a shame for her children. A beautiful wife is also
enemy of her husband. And a foolish son is enemy of
his parents. (10)

स्वयं कर्म करोत्यात्मा स्वयं तत्फलमश्नुते ।
स्वयं भ्रति संसारे स्वयं तस्माद्विमुच्यते ।।

A person commits acts and faces the
consequences himself. He takes birth in many life
forms and eventually dares to break free from all
the life cycles and joins his Creator. (8)

One who has money, he has lot of friends and
lines of relatives. He is hailed as a real man. He is
also considered full of wisdom. (5)

पक्षिणां काकश्चाण्डालः पशूनां चैव कुक्कुरः ।
मुनीनां कोपी चाण्डालः सर्वेषां चैव निन्दक: ।।

Among birds the crow is the most evil, among
animals dog, among sages the short tempered one
and among common folk the back-biter is the worst
evil. (2)

श्रुत्वा धर्मं विजानाति श्रुत्वा त्यजति र्दुतिम्‌ ।
श्रुत्वा ज्ञानमवाप्नोति श्रुत्वा मोक्षमवाप्नुयात्‌ ।।

By hearing the scriptures recited one learns the secrets
of the religion. By listening to the talk of a scholar, an evil
person gets rid of evil thoughts. And the advice of
spiritual guru opens the doors of heaven and way to
Nirvana beyond. (1)
